Way back in 1974, Home Grown recorded and released a vinyl record (since that's how it was done back then). We were lucky to have some incredibly talented friends along for the ride. We have finally re-mastered the original recording and released it on CD and for digital downloading from CD Baby and iTunes. We are thrilled to share this with everyone.  Hope you enjoy it!

 

Modesto, California – October 25, 2012

Home Grown will release their latest CD, “Even Better in Person”, on November 3^rd.  The CD was recorded live in concert at the West Side Theatre in Newman. The CD release will fulfill a long-time dream the band has had to present the fun and energy of their live performances.

The CD release will coincide with a concert at the State Theatre on Saturday, November 3^rd.  The concert is a fundraiser for the Modesto Peace/Life Center.  General admission tickets are $20. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the concert begins at 8:00 pm with Kyle Rowland, a young blues-harp phenomenon who will kick off the party.

Home Grown consists of three musicians who have been playing music together for almost 40 years. In 1973, Michael Lingg, Bruce Johnson and Patrick Durr first played and sang together and realized their voices and guitar styles combined for a great sound.  Patrick says, “We grew up on the Beatles and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and we love vocal harmonies and intertwining guitars.”

The three boys (they were young then) planned to just play casually over the summer of ’73 at the Vintage Restaurant, which at the time was very popular and a great venue for nightly live music, with an emphasis on listening rather than dancing.  That single summer continues to this day.  Along the way, Home Grown has been fortunate to perform for a variety of events.  They have just returned from their second visit to Modesto’s sister city, Kurume, Japan, where they performed several times, including a joint concert with City Winds brass orchestra and the Kurume Children’s Choir.

The CD is done! We are very proud of it. It will be available on this website and also on CDBaby.com, iTunes.com, DigStation.com, and Amazon.com very soon. It will also be available on most of these sites as a digital download (entire album or single songs - your choice). Details soon. Start making your Christmas gift list now!

Our CD "A Home Grown Christmas" will be released on Saturday, July 25th. We will have them available for sale at our Concert In the Pines concert in Twain Harte that evening. We expect to have it available at various online locations as soon as possible (starting with CDBaby.com).

The Strand Theatre was one of several classic movie houses that flourished many years ago in downtown Modesto, but are long gone. Patrick wrote a wonderful song about the Strand years ago and we have been performing it ever since. In recent weeks, two different individuals asked us if we had ever recorded the song. We took that as a sign that we should record it immediately, especially since it could provide the soundtrack for a video that our friend Wes Page is creating which will chronicle the history of these fine old theatres. We may release it as a single and/or make it available for download. More on that later!

Bruce and Michael joined Patrick for some of the songs on his new release of classic standards from the past century: "Great Songs with Great Friends". We are still recording our Christmas favorites. The CD will be done sometime in 2009, certainly in plenty of time for Christmas. Meanwhile, we are working towards getting 2 or 3 of our completed songs uploaded to this website for your listening pleasure. Stay tuned.

We have been recording a Christmas CD for some months now. We hope to have it ready for the upcoming (2008) holiday season, but we are picky and won't release it it until we feel it's done. We are very happy with what we have so far!
